I recently congratulated a friend upon launching a new resource she had developed and marketed successfully. She had created a new community from scratch and it was actively filling an important need from day one.
I was proud of my friend as she had worked hard, networked, and developed the content and built the structure. Simply put… she had seen a need and utilized her talents and strengths to come up with a solution.
Yet, until I pointed this out to her, she never saw any connection between her abilities and the deeply positive impact that this resource was already creating in the community.
THE COST OF A LACK OF SELF-AWARENESS AROUND STRENGTHS
You might be wondering why this is a problem? After all, she was still utilizing her strengths. She was creating change and it was having a positive impact within this community.
However, because she did not see it through that perspective, the person who she was short-changing was herself.
When we can own our unique strengths as individuals, we develop a positive view of ourselves, and a sense of competence and inner confidence.
Developing a positive view of yourself is key to being able to have, maintain, and develop healthy relationships.
It is helpful in making progress at our work and in our jobs. It is super beneficial in many other areas too.

WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN?
People often have a fear of sounding arrogant or overconfident if they acknowledge their strengths. Women often fear being “too much” and then being viewed as less desirable employees and partners.
We must be mindful that this fear often limits our emotional growth and development. It can also result in a feeling of being “stuck” in our relationships.
DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR TO YOU?
